A diagnosis of Attention Decit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD; DSM-IV) implies the presence of hyperactive-impulsive or inattentive symptoms that caused i CONCERTA 54MG (METHYLPHENIDATE)
mpairment and were present before age 7 years. The symptoms must cause clinically signicant impairment, e.g., in social, academic, or occupational functioning, and be present in two or more settings, e.g., school (or work) and at home. The symptoms must not be better accounted for by another mental disorder. For the Inattentive Type, at least six of the following symptoms must have persisted for at least 6 months: lack of attention to details/careless mistakes; lack of sustained attention; poor listener; failure to follow through on tasks; poor organization; avoids tasks requiring sustained mental eort; loses things; easily distracted; forgetful. For the Hyperactive-Impulsive Type, at least six of the following symptoms must have persisted for at least 6 months: dgeting/squirming; leaving seat; inappropriate running/climbing; diculty with quiet activities; “on the go;” excessive talking; blurting answers; can’t wait turn; intrusive.
The Combined Type requires both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive criteria to be met.

The dose of methylphenidate extended-release needs to be individualized according to the needs of the person taking the medication. The dose is usually started low and increased gradually to the dose that works best for the person. For people who are not currently taking methylphenidate extended release, the usual starting dose is 18 mg once daily in the morning with or without food. For people currently taking methylphenidate extended release, the starting dose depends on the current dose being taken. Doses above 72 mg daily are not recommended. Swallow this medication whole with water or other liquids. Do not crush, chew, or split the tablets. This medication is designed to be released into the body over time.
